General Directions
A good chemical Balance in your spa will give you crystal clear water and enhance the enjoyment of your Arctic Spa.
Run your pumps while adding chemicals.
- When Filling your spa with fresh water it is important to ensure that your water hardness is correct. South Wales is in general a soft water area and therefore requires hardness increaser (Balance PAK 300). 250g or ¼ of your bottle should be added during fresh water fill- you will not have to add anymore until you next fill your spa.
- Testing of your spa is dependant on the type and frequency of use, you should not allow your spa to stand without testing and balancing for more than 3 days, or within 1 day of use. Using your chemical test strips (taking care not to touch the indicator pads), dip one into your water remove immediately, hold level for 15 seconds. Hold against the comparison chart on the test strip container and compare the colours. The colour ranges show an OK zone- you must balance your water so that the colours on your test strip match the colours in the OK zone.
- Balance PAK 100 (Alkalinity increaser) is the first level to achieve; correct Alkalinity reduces fluctuations in Ph and improves the performance of your Sanitizer. Once your have achieved an OK reading you should test for Ph.
- Balance PAK 200 (Ph increaser) should be added to balance your water, using your spa will usually cause your Ph to drop.
- Sanitizer (Chlorine or Bromine) should be added to kill the bacteria in your spa. It is important that your sanitizer levels are kept to the correct reading, low sanitizer levels will lead to cloudy smelly water which is not very inviting. Adding a capful of Sanitizer immediately after use will help to maintain the sanitizer level.
- Spa Lite is an oxidiser which is used to 'burn-off' the used sanitizer in your spa and freshen your water. For general use add a Spa Lite to your Spa once a week, however if your spa has had 'heavy' use it can be advisable to add a Spa Lite before you look to add your sanitizer.
Cleaning Your Filter
- The filter is used to remove particles from the water and hence keep the water clear. It is advisable to keep 2 filters the 1st being used in the spa and the 2nd clean and dry waiting for change over. These 2 filters kept regularly cleaned should last for 1 year. To keep you filter in good condition and functioning correctly it is advisable to rinse it every week with a pressurised hose and every third week chemically clean it by soaking it overnight in Filterbrite. After soaking, the filter should be rinsed and left to dry, final drying should be in an 'airing cupboard' or such like were the fibres of the filter can dry out hard.
Notes: If you use water cleaning chemicals such as Polysheen, the filter should be regularly rinsed to prevent clogging. A clean filter used in conjunction with Polysheen will maintain crystal clear water.
Hints to Keep Your Water Clear
- Avoid the use of swimwear that contains detergents. These detergents will cause cloudy water and 'foaming'. Soak swimwear in clean water before use, it is sometimes a good idea to keep a number of spare costumes available for guests.
- Body oils and make-up will also cloud your water, it is advisable to shower before using the spa, but not always practical, draining 6-12 inches from your water then refilling dilutes any cloudiness and eases the clearing process.
- Keep your filter well cleaned.
